Cyprus is in the eastern Mediterranean basin at the crossroads of the continents of Europe, Africa and Asia.
In general, and as a member of the European Union, Cyprus follows European norms and standards. English is widely spoken, as are other European languages, especially in the resort areas.

LANGUAGES & EDUCATION
The Population of 850,000 Greek Cypriots is highly educated with 65% holding a university degree. The mother tongue is Greek with English tracing just behind, while other international languages such as German, French and Russian are widely spoken.
GOVERNMENTAL, BANKING & LEGAL SYSTEM
Cyprus retains much of the Government, Banking and Legal system that were bestowed to the newly independent nation in 1960 by the departing British Colonial Government.
HEALTH & INSURANCE SCHEMES
The Island enjoys a superb health system with hospitals and clinics in every town offering very high standards of medical treatment. The cost of health treatment is much lower than on the European mainland while for almost all medical cases including open heart surgery, kidney transplants and cancer treatment there are specialised centres on the island.

UNIVERSITY & COLLEGE EDUCATION
The University of Cyprus and reputable colleges associated to British Universities offer higher education opportunities to Cypriot and international students. The colleges that are associated to British Universities use English as the teaching language.
SECONDARY & PRIMARY EDUCATION
In each town of Cyprus there are secondary and primary schools for the thousands of expatriate English and Russian families living permanently or working with offshore companies on the island. English is used as the second language.
TELECOMMUNICATIONS
Cyprus has an unparalleled telecommunications system for home and international calls and is directly connected with almost all countries of the world. The cost of mobile (G.S.M) telecommunications is similar to the rest of Europe.
The Island has two International airports at Larnaca and Paphos and there are many direct or connected daily flights mainly to all European Countries as well as North America, Asia and Africa.
LAND TRAVEL
All Towns are connected with highways making travel time a pleasant short excursion. It only takes 10 minutes from anywhere to get out of town, whilst distances are very short.
